First Draft of Double Page Spread

This is my first draft of my double page spread. After discussing my ideas with my peers they quite like how I carried on my colour scheme being purple, white and black and they like how they are quite subtly used and not just used for the 'sake of it'. I think that in my next drafts I will carry this idea through and incorporate it in them. In other music magazines this is typically done where they stick to the same colour scheme throughout that particular issue. The reason behind this is so the magazine is organised and isn't overwhelming for the reader. The layout of the page is organised and looks like it is placed there for a specific reason. I would say that this is an advantage to this draft, that the layout has been chosen specifically.

Another feature that my audience appealed to was the faded "Lelia Ray" in the background, behind the article and the main image of the artist. They said that it was quite original and they hadn't noticed this before previously on a pop magazine. Even though it was a small and inconspicuous detail they thought it was very noticeable.

When looking at other pop magazines I quite liked the look of one feature they did (shown in the professional magazine 'Billboard' picture on the right) where they had small images of the artist and then a main which is something that I have used as for inspiration. This shows that I hadn't challenged the pop music magazine conventions as I thought that I needed something that looks familiar to my audience and therefore still represent my target audience.

However my peers thought that compared to the professional they thought my double page spread was bare and simple. They questioned if I needed more smaller versions of my artist at the top of my page then just 2 of them. Therefore in the next draft I produce I will add more of this feature onto my double page spread so that more of an effect gets created.
